Job Description Job Description Description: New Avenues Program | The Walker School Position Title: Speech-Language Pathologist Reports To: Head of New Avenues Employment Status: Full Time FLSA Classification: Exempt Position Description New Avenues, a specialized program within The Walker School serving students with language-based learning disabilities (including dyslexia), seeks a collaborative and innovative Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to join our team. This position offers a meaningful opportunity to work closely with students, teachers, and families within a fully integrated, team-based instructional model serving New Avenues students in grades 1–5. Unlike traditional pull-out therapy models, the SLP partners directly with New Avenues classroom teachers to co-plan and co-teach language-rich lessons that support students’ communication and learning throughout the school day. Instruction is delivered through a combination of in-class support and targeted small-group interventions, ensuring that language development is thoughtfully embedded within reading, writing, math, and other core content areas. This role supports New Avenues students in grades 1–5 through a collaborative co-teaching model that values shared planning, instructional partnership, and collective responsibility for student growth. This role is central to supporting students’ academic and social success. The SLP works collaboratively with teachers and families to identify student strengths and needs, provide targeted interventions, and monitor progress over time. Requirements: Essential Responsibilities & Job Duties - Co-plan and co-teach with New Avenues classroom teachers to deliver language-rich instruction for students in grades 1–5 - Collaborate with teachers to embed language processing strategies into daily classroom routines and instructional practices - Support vocabulary development, executive functioning skills, verbal and nonverbal language, and communication strategies within the classroom setting - Provide targeted small-group pull-out instruction as needed to reinforce and extend classroom learning - Identify student language needs through review of psychoeducational evaluations, direct assessment, and classroom observation - Interpret assessment results and collaborate with the team to adjust instructional approaches as student needs evolve - Administer additional assessments when appropriate to further understand students’ strengths and areas for growth - Communicate regularly with teachers, parents, and school administrators regarding student progress and instructional supports - Provide consultation and guidance to teachers regarding classroom strategies, accommodations, and language-based supports - Contribute collaboratively to applicable components of report cards and transition documentation - Participate in parent conferences, ensuring that student progress is communicated clearly and thoughtfully - Collaborate with other educational professionals to support a shared understanding of student performance and instructional planning - Monitor student progress through observation and consultation to inform continuation, modification, or conclusion of interventions - Attend school-required meetings, including faculty and staff meetings related to the New Avenues program - Support the broader goals of the New Avenues program through additional responsibilities as needed Core Qualifications - Education: Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution - Certification: Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from ASHA - Licensure: Current state licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist - Experience: Experience working with school-aged children in an educational setting preferred; experience with students with learning disabilities is beneficial - Skills: Ability to administer and interpret assessments, design targeted interventions, and work collaboratively with educators and families Why The Walker School? - Impact: Directly contribute to students’ ability to communicate effectively, shaping their confidence and success. - Community: Join a passionate team dedicated to nurturing every child’s potential and celebrating diversity. - Benefits: Competitive salary and benefits package, including medical, vision, dental, tuition remission, and a retirement plan. - Professional Growth: Opportunities for professional development in a school that values continuous learning.
