Job Description:

Shifts: 7:30am - 4pm

Must be able to perform on a technical level which does not require constant supervision while performing radiographic examinations under the direction of the Radiologist.
Functions independently in the designated area at the direction of the Lead Technologist or Manager.
Able to perform all aspects of diagnostic radiographic procedures with demonstrated proficiency while utilizing radiation safety practices to produce a high quality examination with general supervision.
Coordinates daily activities to include performing examination and associated clerical duties.
One year of direct patient care work experience.

Essential Responsibilities:
Examines requests and verifies orders on each assigned patient. Refers any questionable orders to the Radiologist before performing procedure. Contacts ordering physician when there are discrepancies and requests a corrected written order.
Assures each patient has been properly prepped for exam ordered. Correlates prior exams applicable test results and lab data pertinent to exam being performed.
Properly greets each patient by name utilizing AIDET and states his/her name and job classification to the patient. Adheres to WE ID policy by verifying the correct patient by checking the patients armband asking the patient to state his/her full name and DOB. Prepares each patient for the procedure with a full explanation providing necessary instructions and answering any questions the patient may have.
Reviews in-patients chart to obtain pertinent clinical history. Interviews patients for a complete medical history as pertains to the exam. Records medical history on requisition/questionnaire as needed for Radiologist and properly scans documents into HIS. Correlates other pertinent tests test results and laboratory data with exam being performed.
Performs basic patient care functions. Informs appropriate nursing personnel of any changes in the patients condition. Required CPR certification and able to initiate life support measures for patients when necessary. Assists in Code Blue/Emergency Response procedures during medical emergencies as needed.
Evaluates technical quality of exams develops and utilizes varied techniques for elevated quality and efficiency within the department. Is competent to differentiate artifacts from anatomical or pathological structures. Recognizes imaging abnormalities and performs additional imaging as needed.
Is authorized to obtain medication radio-pharmaceutical or contrast material as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner authorized/certified technologist or registered nurse. Medications to include radioisotopes and contrast materials cannot be administered without appropriate clinical credentials training and certification to do so. Employees designated to obtain these items may also participate in the ordering and distribution of inventory.
Assists Radiologist in performance of procedures of invasive and non-invasive nature. Performs all invasive procedures in accordance with blood borne pathogens isolation and infection control policies and procedures. Maintains knowledge and skills required to work safely in an environment that can create significant exposure to blood borne pathogens and infectious disease. Wears appropriate personal protective equipment during all procedures.
Reports malfunctioning equipment to the Manager Lead Technologist and/or Engineer.
Prepares inspects secures labels and administers contrast media as required.
Adheres to the hospital/facility fire and safety procedures. Attends mandatory m - service classes offered through the hospital.
Provides radiation protection to patient staff and self in accordance with recommended radiation safety standards.
Performs work in an accurate and timely manner in periods of crisis and emergency situations where time is critical.

Education:
High School Diploma/GED

Certifications:
ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists)
BLS - AHA
