Job DescriptionJob DescriptionCertified Medical Assistant (CMA) in a busy medical oncology practice working alongside physicians, advance practice providers, nurses, and office staff to provide complete care for Oncology patients.Job SummaryThe CMA is responsible for evaluating and meeting the needs of the physician, physician assistant or nurse practitioner. The CMA works closely with his/her provider to ensure that the electronic medical records are complete. The CMA secures all supporting documents required for patient care in a timely manner. The CMA prepares the patient for clinical evaluation.Essential Job ResponsibilitiesThe Medical Assistant's essential job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Punctuality and attendance in the clinics are required.
  • Complete MA rooming notes in OnocEMR, documenting the status of depression, pain and ECOG score.
  • Complete an accurate medication reconciliation at each patient visit.
  • Document if supporting documents are given and other metrics as required by Oncology Care Model and/or payer contracts as instructed.
  • Perform and document vital signs to include weight and height, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respirations.
  • Prepare and maintain the exam room and keep them fully stocked.
  • Login to MA Call center phone system retrieve overflow calls and create messages via text note to phone triage.
  • Prior to patients visits screen charts and retrieve additional and outstanding medical records needed to complete the patient chart. This should be done 2-3 days prior to the appointment.
  • Call follow up patients for COVID pre-screening.
  • Keep Inbox as well as Group Inboxes up to date, work as a team.
  • Ensure documents are scanned and sourced correctly.
  • Assure all aspects of documentation are completed in OncoEMR.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and assist the Physician/Provider during the examination as needed.
  • Anticipate and prepare for the needs of the assigned provider.
  • Monitor Tiger Text for incoming messages for your provider that day.
  • Enter PCP into Centricity for all new patients or for a current patient who has had a change in their PCP.
  • Scan and Source any documents you pull from the local Hospital portals or any hard copies brought in by patients.
  • Pull, scan and source a Prescription Drug Monitoring sheet for any patient currently taking a schedule 2 medication. Other Job ResponsibilitiesAdditional job responsibilities of the Medical Assistant include, but are not limited to:
  • Demonstrate a commitment to improving the quality of patient care.
  • Communicate with office team/ physician to ensure needs of team and physician are met, including location and daily schedule of assigned physician.
  • Communicate effectively with assigned Physician/Provider, office team and patient to ensure patients are seen in a timely and organized fashion. Ensure proper routing of the patient before, during, and after office visit.
  • Communicate effectively with all departments within the office to ensure that tasks are carried out efficiently and with minimal disruption.
  • Provide compassionate care to the oncology patient. Interact well with the patient and their family.
  • Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
  • Collaborate with MA and Nursing team to seek creative ways to solve patient care issues.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications.
  • Enhance practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Maintain current CPR certification.
  • Comply with OSHA regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.Required Skills:

  • Pushing/pullingEducation/Experience:
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification
  • High School education or GEDRevised February 2021
