RRTs only; critical care experience required. Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of experience and 1 travel contract. A minimum of 2 years of experience in a facility with 300 beds is required. The respiratory therapist will be the first line when it comes to intubating patients. Preference will not be given to therapists who lack this experience or are uncomfortable with intubation. Candidates must be accustomed to high and heavy workloads. There will be interviews with internal nursing staff. No second interview will be needed for approval. Expect to provide an average of 550 minutes of therapy per shift, with each treatment averaging 15 minutes. The average patient load is 13-15 patients per shift. Certifications required include RRT, state license, BLS, ACLS, PALS. If working in NICU, NRP is necessary. The role requires the ability to charge and run as a clinical coordinator. Rotating holiday shifts are expected with permanent staff. No on-call responsibilities. Scrub color will be ceil blue, with the option to wear a ceil blue jacket. The facility uses Servo vents (U and I models). In-house support is provided by a hospitalist or intensivist 24/7. A pharmacy is available 24/7. Shifts will have varied start times; options available between early morning and late evening. There is no floating between units. Orientation will include both hospital and charting processes. For ICU assignments, additional orientation may be required. Respiratory therapists will be responsible for all typical duties, including nebulizer treatments, airway management, and ventilator support. Duties also include arterial blood gas collection and bedside pulmonary function tests. Respiratory therapists will manage patients with conditions such as COPD, CHF, pneumonia, respiratory failure, ARDS, and cancers. Assignments will depend on unit needs, with up to 4 airways managed per therapist in ICU. The average staffing will be around 11 therapists on day shifts and 10-11 on night shifts. Floor therapists should have a minimum of one year of experience, while critical care therapists must have at least two years. Candidates must be confident and knowledgeable in managing ventilators and interpreting ABGs. Expected cancellation notice is 12 hours every 2 weeks. The charting system used is MEDITECH - 6.1. A BSN is not required. Required certifications include ACLS, BLS, and PALS.
