Registered Nurse (RN) | Progressive Care Unit Location: Macon, GA Agency: Cynet Health Pay: $1,766 per week Shift Information: Days - 3 days x 12 hours Contract Duration: 13 Weeks Start Date: ASAP About the Position Job Title: RN - PCU Profession: RN Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years of PCU RN experience License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required; CCRN preferred Must-Have: EKG competency exam Description: RN position in a Progressive Care Unit. Facility has 637 licensed beds and is a Level 1 Trauma Designation teaching hospital. Unit consists of 10 beds with a census of 10 patients. Patients are step-down ICU patients. Common diagnoses include respiratory failure, renal failure, sepsis, GI bleed, DKA, hypotension, hypertension, stroke, pneumonia, cancer, ARDS, and overdoses. Patients are step-downs from ICU and ER admissions. Chronic home ventilators with static vent settings are also managed in this unit. Patient ratios are RN: 1:3-4 and CNA: 1-2 per shift. CNA duties include assisting with vital signs, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, ambulating patients, turning patients, hourly rounding, and transporting patients as needed. There is a unit secretary on shift from 7 am to 11 pm; after that, a house-wide call secretary takes over until 7 am. Charge nurses may have patients. Most units perform their own phlebotomy; nurses draw blood from central venous lines. A PICC team is available for insertions. Resource nurses and discharge nurses support patient flow. Respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and intensivists are available 24/7. Telemetry monitoring is managed by a central telemetry unit. EMR system used is Epic. IV pumps are Alaris and medication dispensing is via Pyxis. Monitors in use include Philips units. Unit-specific equipment includes VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova glucose stat strips, Belmont rapid infuser, TABLO, PCA pain management devices, and sequential compression devices. Cooling and heating blankets are available as needed. Floating within and below scope may be necessary. Weekend rotation includes working 5-6 weekend shifts out of 12 in a 6-week schedule. No on-call requirements. Holidays require working one shift of each major holiday. Requests for time off require manager approval. Scrub color for RN is navy.
