Job Description:

Blue Bird Corporation is a billion dollar school bus manufacturer headquartered in Macon, GA with our manufacturing facilities located in Fort Valley, GA. We are seeking an Industrial Engineer who will be a key contributor to the manufacturing operations team.


The Industrial Engineer solves problems confronting distribution center performance in delivering on the core mission of materials support to production by identifying Root Cause, implementing corrective actions, sustaining improvements and identifying support as required. They will work within the Distribution Center and Manufacturing Operations organization reporting to the Supply Chain leader and will support cross functionally across organizations to support production schedules and maximize internal and external customer satisfaction.


  • Ability to Champion and lead continuous improvement projects using methodologies like: Kaizen, Six Sigma, Lean or others for Materials Management in a fulfillment/distribution centers and/or manufacturing environment - highly preferred
  • Analyze and plan workforce utilization, space requirements, workflow and design layouts of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency
  • Proactively identify and implement process improvement opportunities throughout the company
  • Utilize industrial engineering principles and techniques to validate recommended process modifications

  • Discover opportunities for waste reduction and capacity improvement and proactively drive solutions with and without capital investment
  • Develop and implement systems and improvement strategies for direct material flow (in plant transport, inventory staging/access, and assembly line supply) including capacity and bottleneck resolution
  • Evaluate process improvements for operations (labor balancing, time studies, picking, kitting, packing and loading, line-side storage setup, product sequencing, ) to minimize downtime and rework
  • Coordinate equipment / process changes related to materials picking, packaging, storage, transport, delivery, line-side use, returns, and any other material related issues to support all assembly lines
  • Identify issues and risks to ensure cost effective new product development and introduction into manufacturing as required specifically from a materials packaging, transport, and storage perspective in plant and distribution center environments
  • Provide support to warehouse, materials, or production area managers with kaizens, JIT projects, and shop floor management activities to achieve task reductions as assigned

  • Effective communication skills - both written and verbal
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams using effective communication both written and verbal.
  • Ability to provide presentations to upper management, peers, and employees on projects, progress, and conceptual projects for improvement
  • Encourage involvement and engage work force in improvement projects (product, process, safety)
  • Ensure processes satisfy internal production, safety, ISO, and quality goals and procedures set by management
  • Use computer assisted engineering and design software to review product schematics, drawings, and processes
  • Ability to analyze data and process inputs to justify
  • Strong technical writing and change management
  • Excellent demonstrated organizational skills and a focus on timely delivery of specified deliverables' goals and objectives
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity, ability, and willingness to multitask and prioritize projects given multiple opportunities


  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required (Industrial Engineering BSIE, preferred), Master's welcome
  • 3+ years of experience with work standards, process improvements, and project management in a manufacturing, sales and distribution operation center is highly desired
  • Demonstrated work experience with extensive data analysis and reporting using visualization software like Tableau; extensive use in building and managing large data sets is preferred
  • Candidate should be familiar with Industrial Engineering concepts, Warehouse Management Systems, and Logistics
  • Knowledge and training in Six Sigma, Lean Enterprise or any other continuous improvement methodology is essential along with experience in Time/Motion study principles
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite including MS Project and MS Visio
  • Additional software use in Solidworks or other CAD software is essential, use of Simulation software would be a great additional skill set

  • Distribution Center environment with frequent production facility interaction
  • Wearing of PPE where required
  • Occasional periods of standing or walking in close proximity to machinery and moderate to loud noise
