DescriptionPruittHealth is a COVID-19 vaccine-mandated
employer.JOB PURPOSE:Provides substance use education and
counseling to all residents as assigned by the Medical Director.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Under the supervision of the
Neuropsychologist/ Clinical Social Worker, the substance use
counselor, will:1. - - - Have a basic understanding of addictions,
substance abuse, and co-occurring disorders.2. - - - Be trained and
demonstrate competency in facility drug testing protocols and
procedures.3. - - - Provide drug testing as ordered by a physician
following outlined facility policies and procedures. 4. - - -
Provide drug test results to appropriate clinical staff. 5. - - -
Organize, develop, and conduct support chapters of substance abuse
organizations on campus including but not limited to Alcoholics
Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous.6. - - - Organize, develop, and
conduct self-help groups, recovery groups, and family groups for
the purpose of support and education for a recovery process
involving substance abuse.7. - - - Provide documentation of groups
conducted, outcomes achieved, goals developed, modified, and
completed. Document frequency and duration of treatment. 8. - - -
Provide training on addiction/substance abuse to patients' families
as well as individuals involved in direct patient care of the
residents.9. - - - Work closely with the medical team to
communicate about substance abuse care10. - Secure chapters and
sponsors for patients prior to discharge in their local
communities. 11. - Read current literature, talk with colleagues,
and participate in professional organizations or conferences to
keep abreast of developments in substance use theory and
practice.12. - Treats a patient using therapeutic methods for
substance use and, monitoring the effects of any interventions, and
adjusting treatment where necessary.13. - Consults with the
patient's Psychiatrist, Primary Care Physician, Nurses or other
health care providers.14. - Assists with crisis intervention when
needed and appropriate.15. - Writes and maintains patient and
clinical records, including the type of treatment and substance use
therapy. 16. - Follow ethical and legal policies, procedures and
standards.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:--- - - - Maintains skills
and knowledge through continuing education. Applies information to
job responsibilities. --- - - - Participates in center/agency
surveys (Licensure/JCAHO) and any subsequently required reports.
--- - - - Attends and participates in continuing educational
programs to keep abreast of changes in your field as well as to
maintain current skill sets, as required. --- - - - Attends and
participates in mandatory in-services. --- - - - Honors
patients/residents' rights to fair and equitable treatment,
self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil
rights, including the right to wage complaints. --- - - - Complies
with corporate compliance program. --- - - - Reports job-related
functions/tasks that involve occupational hazards including
exposure to blood and body fluids and others as necessary. --- - -
- Follows established safety regulations, to include fire
protection & prevention, smoking regulations, infection control,
etc. --- - - - Follows established safety procedures when
performing tasks and/or working with equipment. --- - - -
Communicates well with patients/residents/clients and family
members providing warm and friendly greeting and an approachable
attitude to families, visitors, patients/residents/clients and
responds to expressed concerns while displaying a helpful, caring
demeanor. - Answers questions when appropriate in a professional
manner. --- - - - Demonstrates knowledge of emergency and disaster
protocols --- - - - Working knowledge of policies and procedures
for workplace safety, infection control, Standard Precautions for
Blood Borne Pathogens, use of personal protective equipment and the
handling of hazardous materials. QualificationsMINIMUM EDUCATION
REQUIRED: Graduate with at least a bachelor's degreeMINIMUM
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: One (1) year professional experience in the
field as a substance use counselor. 5 years preferred. ADDITIONAL
QUALIFICATIONS: (Preferred qualifications) Experience in providing
treatment to individuals with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder,
Traumatic Brain Injury and Poly-Trauma along with program
development and post-acute care medical conditions. For new hires
