Job Description:

Safely and efficiently manages the production operation of the plant facility in order to meet or exceed customer requirements. This includes the technical, physical, and human aspects of plant operations, plant safety, plant environmental, plant engineering, and plant maintenance.
Dimensions of Job: 1) Plant operations encompassing mineral production scheduling, packaging, shipping/receiving, Washplant, and alum production.2) Manage up to 30 employees.3) Sales of 750,000 tons/yr; Operations budget of over $60M. Principal Duties and Responsibilities 1) Operates the facility to maximize productivity while meeting and/or exceeding all financial, safety, and quality goals.2) Demonstrates understanding of MSHA safety regulations. Initiates actions to ensure 100% compliance. Initiates actions to ensure zero workplace accidents and injuries. Cultivates an accident-free workplace.3) Establishes and upholds quality systems by directing compliance with ISO 9001:2000 quality system or other applicable quality system.4) Integrates the introduction of new or revised product and process improvements based on plant capabilities.5) Provides technical and administrative support to assist in problem solving for existing and new processes in the areas of operating procedures, methods, people and/or equipment. Uses sound problem solving skills and judgment to identify problems with existing production equipment and takes steps to remedy. Writes capital projects which convey a thorough analysis. Works with plant manager to manage the capital budget.6) Is familiar with company policies and procedures, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA and Ga. EPD), Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), and Affirmative Action Compliance programs.7) Demonstrates an understanding of the plant processes. Communicates effectively with Plant Maintenance, Project Engineering, and Quality Assurance Departments.8) Builds world-class plant operations team. Promotes KaMin's Vision and Values and desired plant culture by developing the skills and leadership competencies of staff and by creating a work environment that fosters initiative and motivation.9) Reviews production reports, analyzes problems, and recommends actions, working with the Plant Manager and his staff. Advises and assists the Plant Manager in the development and administration of policies concerning the operation of the plant.10) Keeps the Plant Manager informed of significant developments and, when absent, assumes the duties of the Plant Manager to the extent authorized.11) Works closely with Mine Manager and Mine Production and Calcine Supervisor to ensure that their scheduling and mix enable the plant to meet its production goals in the most productive and efficient manner possible.12) May perform other duties which enable the plant to meet its safety, quality, and production goals.
Major Challenges: 1) Organize time and priorities to handle multiple functions and balance the needs of production areas and sales efforts while adding value to KaMin.2) Operates the production departments in a manner consistent with the KaMin Values and operates as a role model of the KaMin Values, while achieving long-term, sustainable productivity improvements. 3) Sets the daily pace for plant morale, safety, and performance of plant personnel.4) Develops a competent and motivated staff; guides and directs the daily accountabilities, goals and objectives for subordinates and ensures their completion.5) Maintain a level of knowledge and ability in the areas of safety, environmental, human resources, and other KaMin policies and procedures.6) Planning and recommending capital investment and staff required to meet a wide variety of product performance specifications needed by customers.
Decision Making Authority: 1) Spending Authority of $10K.2) Works with Plant Manager and Human Resources to implement employee development, performance and compensation reviews, and to administer plant rules.3) Manages plant operations to properly build/diminish inventories and to meet customer orders.4) Assumes duties of Plant Manager in his absent.5) Approves the hiring of plant operators.6) Recommends organizational design, contract staffing, workflow, and training to the Plant Manager.
Specialized or Technical Knowledge/Skills: 1) Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field required or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree preferred. 2) Minimum 10 years progressive, industry-related experience.3) Minimum 5 years of management experience.4) Demonstrated familiarity with all aspects of plant operations, including detailed knowledge of equipment and processing methods, safety, quality, and environmental regulations.5) Progressive career responsibilities within KaMin operations preferred. Other Key Competencies:1) Write clear, concise memos, letters, reports, and instructions, which others can understand. Verbally transmits ideas, instructions and information so they are clearly understood by others in formal or informal face-to-face situations.2) Computer literacy in spreadsheets, databases, and word-processing. Must be able to work independently.
