You'll Do:Manage Budgets. Prepare annual operating budget and
develop appropriate business strategies and plans to meet or exceed
goals and objectives. Manage and direct the capital budget for each
site to ensure that all capital projects are completed according to
AFE and cost projections. Understand the Market. Understand the
market dynamics and leverage Company assets and resources to
maximize return on investment.Ensure Training and Compliance.
Ensure that area of responsibility is in compliance with all
Company and Division policies and procedures, including
governmental rules and regulations. Ensure compliance with
Department of Transportation motor carrier rules and regulations.
Ensure that employees receive proper training and instructions to
perform assigned job duties. Collaborate. Work with SHE Division,
Logistics Safety Specialists, and Company officials to promote a
safe work environment that meets all State and Federal rules and
regulations. Manage the relationship between the logistics function
and the Sales Service Center (SSC). Work closely with sales and
marketing to recommend programs to increase profitable sales
revenue for the Area. Share knowledge and expertise with other
areas of Vulcan in support of transportation and logistics
initiatives. Conduct Investigations. Conduct and/or participate in
post accident and injury investigations and analysis to determine
the root cause and implement preventative measures.Champion
Customer Service. Develop an organization and culture that is
flexible and focused on satisfying customer needs and solving
customer problems. Identify needs and develop relevant training for
the group to address sales and customer service issues. Work
closely with inside and outside sales personnel on customer value
drivers and issues impacting customer satisfaction. Implement
programs, process improvements, and marketing strategies to address
customer needs.Supervise Staff. Supervise, attract, retain, and
motivate staff engaged in operations, analysis, and dispatch.
Direct the activities of dispatchers and oversee customer order
fulfillment.Initiate Measurement System. Initiate and maintain a
measurement system to track sales performance and customer
satisfaction within the Area.Analyze Market Segments. Analyze
market segments to identify competitive products, value added
drivers, and marketing strategies to secure a competitive advantage
within the marketplace.Champion Continuous Improvement. Achieve
profitability targets and grow logistics capability. Analyze and
develop actions to control and lower costs. Proactively identify
issues and concerns that negatively impact customer service or SHE
and develop corrective actions to address those issues and
concerns. Recommend and implement changes to all order fulfillment
processes within the Area with focus on improved efficiency and
cost reductions. Review and recommend automation/system
improvements for the Area. Identify best practices that can be
implemented both inside and outside Vulcan. Achieve or exceed
safety, health, and environmental goals and objectives. Additional
Responsibilities. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Skills
You'll Need: Education. BS/BA degree in business administration,
logistics, construction management, or a related field is
preferred. Experience. Must have a minimum of 5 years experience in
the aggregate business with a good understanding of business
functions and key drivers for sales and customer satisfaction. Must
have experience in customer service or support. Must have P&L
responsibility experience. Experience in aggregate or short truck
hauling is preferred.Leadership Skills. Must be able to effectively
motivate and reward employees. Customer Service Skills. Must have
strong customer service skills. Regulatory Knowledge. Must have
knowledge of environmental and safety regulations in trucking and
terminal operations. Must possess working knowledge of DOT (State
and Federal) motor-carrier rules and regulations to allow effective
evaluation, representation, and management of Vulcan's interests in
its relationships with transportation service providers.Pricing
Knowledge. Must have the ability to set pricing in the context of a
profitable unit, market realities, the true cost of hauling, and
corporate requirements. Interpersonal Skills. Must have excellent
interpersonal skills. Must be able to relate to people in all
levels of the organization and represent Vulcan in a professional
manner. Must be able to communicate effectively with truckers and
customers. Must have effective presentation skills. Time Management
Skills. Must be able to perform tasks in an environment that has
and will continue to have increased pressure. Must be able to work
under general direction and meet deadlines. Must be able to work in
a stressful, deadline-oriented environment that requires thinking
and acting quickly and creatively to resolve problems.Operational
Knowledge. Must have knowledge of the construction materials
industry to include aggregates and asphalt. Must have business
planning skills.Analytical Skills. Must be able to quickly analyze
and understand complex business and organization issues. Must be
able to develop creative solutions to complex business and
organization issues. Must have superior analytical and problem
solving skills. Technical Skills. Must have knowledge of basic
computer applications and the use of automated business
functions.
